Am I Eligible For a PCP Car Finance Claim with Mercedes?

You may be eligible for compensation if:

  • The Mercedes was purchased between 6 April 2007 and 1 November 2024.

  • The Mercedes was purchased using PCP or HP finance.

  • The vehicle was used for personal use, not for business purposes.

  • First-hand, second-hand or used vehicles are all eligible.

  • The car has been paid off in full or is still in finance.

If you purchased a Mercedes using PCP car finance between 6 April 2007 and 1 November 2024, you may be eligible for compensation from one of Mercedes' finance providers, including:

  • Mercedes-Benz Finance

  • Mercedes-Benz Financial Services UK Ltd

  • Athlon Car Lease

Like many Mercedes drivers, you may have purchased an A-Class, C-Class, E-Class, GLA, GLC or GLE through a dealership without realising the broker arranging your finance could have received an undisclosed commission.

The FCA has looked into discretionary commission arrangements (DCAs) and hidden commissions and after a long review has concluded that customers may be entitled to compensation.

Currently the average compensation could be around £829 for vehicle, although the amount you receive may be higher or lower depending on your individual circumstances.

You may want to proceed further if:

  • The car finance agreement was arranged through a dealership.

  • The car finance agreement started between 6 April 2007 and 1 November 2024.

  • You were not clearly told how the commission structure worked.

  • You accepted the finance without comparing multiple lenders.

At Claim-Smart, we are helping clients with potential compensation claims against Mercedes-Benz Finance and other motor finance providers such as Blackhorse, Audi Financial Services and Hyundai.

We are here to help process your claim in the best way possible so that you receive any compensation you may be entitled to. If you no longer have your finance documents or paperwork, don't worry. We may still be able to locate your agreement and help you submit a claim.

What makes a car finance agreement potentially eligible for compensation?

Agreements built around commission incentives

One of the biggest issues being reviewed is how commission influenced the cost of finance.

The problem was, consumers were not always made aware that commission existed or how it affected the agreement.

Lack of transparency through the sales process

A lot of the time, car finance was secured quickly at a dealership so consumers could buy the vehicle they wanted.

Because of this, many consumers signed agreements without being talked through how the lender and dealership worked together, how the interest was calculated, and whether the dealer benefitted financially from the outcome.

In situations where consumers were not given enough information to make an informed decision, the agreement may now be reviewed under the FCA redress scheme and potentially eligible for compensation.

Some agreements involved fixed commission structures instead. But even when the interest rate was not changed by the dealer, consumers may still not have been told how the finance company and dealership worked together.

This lack of transparency is a key reason why many claims are still valid to receive compensation.

Can I Make a Claim Against Mercedes For Mis-Sold PCP Car Finance?

Yes, you can check whether you may be eligible for a PCP claim against Mercedes, and it is completely free to do so.

The FCA estimates that around 12.1 million motor finance agreements could potentially be eligible for compensation, with average payouts estimated to be around £829 per vehicle.

Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) is the most popular way to finance a Mercedes and other vehicles in the UK. However, many customers who took out finance between 2007 and 2024 may not have been told that commission was being paid to the dealer or broker arranging the agreement.

The FCA has given motorists until 31 August 2027 to submit complaints relating to affected motor finance agreements. If you have not yet started your claim, the Claim-Smart team can guide you every step of the way.

Principal reason for making a claim from a lender

One of the main reasons you may be entitled to redress is that the lender did not fully disclose to you the details of the commission they were paying the person who sold you the car, or the dealer/broker who introduced you to the lender.

You were not informed that you could have saved a lot of money by taking out the loan if you simply went directly to the lender

Other reasons you may have a claim against a lender:

You felt pressured at the time into buying a product or committing to a service

The bank, broker or lender failed to advise you of the financial risks

You were promised something that was not delivered

The bank, broker or lender did not fully disclose details of all applicable charges

What can you do if you were a buyer and potentially affected:

Claim-Smart will act on your behalf to determine if you are owed any compensation.
If we represent your claim for you and you receive compensation, we will charge you

a fee in accordance with our Terms & Conditions. This will never exceed 36%
(inclusive of VAT). If you cancel your agreement with us after the 14 day cooling off
period, we will charge you our reasonable costs for any work carried out on your
behalf. Please see our T&Cs for more information.

However, it is important to note that  you do not need to use us or anyone else, to make your
claim or complaint to your lender. You can do this yourself for free. If your claim or complaint is
not successful on the first instance you can refer it to the Finance Ombudsman Service
yourself, again for free.

*We work on a 'No Win, No Fee' basis which means you pay nothing unless your claim succeeds. A fee of 18–36% (including VAT) applies only on successful claims, and a cancellation fee may apply after the 14 day cooling off period.

However, if you choose to make a claim you should be aware that the FCA is currently consulting on a redress scheme, so lenders do not have to make any payment until after the FCA has completed this process. This is currently scheduled to be completed in early 2026 and the complaint handling pause ends 31 May 2026 so we believe payments, if any, from lenders will not start until several weeks after that date.

The FCA periodically issue important statements on vehicle finance mis-selling and discretionary commission arrangements.

  • Once your complaint has been submitted, the finance provider will review your agreement under the FCA's guidance. Timescales vary depending on when the finance agreement was taken out, but you should normally receive an acknowledgement within a few weeks.

  • Not at all, you can still claim if the car was used or second hand, as long as you purchased it through PCP finance and were charged and undisclosed commission.

  • If you have already submitted a complaint, there is no need to submit another one. Mercedes-Benz Finance should continue reviewing your complaint under the FCA's process, and you should receive an update once the review has been completed.

  • Current industry estimates suggest the average successful claim could receive around £829, with some claims worth considerably more and others less. The minimum compensation amount could be around £120.

  • Yes. The current FCA deadline for submitting complaints relating to affected motor finance agreements is 31 August 2027, although this may be subject to change.
